The only thing you can do is leave it open (maybe cover it with apiece of cloth or paper) and wait until it turns to vinegar. It will probably be very good vinegar, in fact.|||It's not true, it turns to vinegar.
I have had many spoil in the fridge, so if your method worked they would not have spoiled.
