What is a good red wine to use for cooking?

I'm trying to learn how to cook better but I'm not much of a wine connoisseur. This recipe calls for red wine - which is a good one? Can you also tell me some good white wines to cook with? Thank you - from myself AND my family!||| The #1 rules when cooking with wine- don't use a wine you wouldn't drink yourself, type of wine thats good for cooking is dry wine, marlotte here's alink below ................Ren|||You can use a relatively cheap red wine for cooking; it's just going to reduce over heat as the alcohol burns off.

Zinfandels, merlots, and even chiantis are good cooking wines.

|||Marsala, Merlot, also blends |||I have to be a vague. But the rule of thumb is if you enjoy the wine you cook with the wine. Red wine can be dry, bold and mild. You may want to stick with a Pinot Nior as it is a mild wine. White wine a nice Italian Table wine is dry and a Chardonnay is a medium body white. Hope that helps.|||Depending on the dish I use burgundy, cabernet or merlot. Tonight I'm using merlot in my dish. Any of these are good, buy the cheapest one you can find.
