What to do about odor from red wine on carpet?

I spilt a whole cup of red wine all over my carpet yesterday. I didnt know what to immediately do really when it happened other than grap a few wet towels and put liquid laundry detergent on the end of them and scrubed the carpet really good until the stains were barely , if at all visible in the carpet.

Then I heard a few hours later that "Resolve" carpet spray was good to use , so sprayed some of that as well all over that area and rubbed the carpet again with a towel.

I still think i am smelling that red wine and was curious if this will be its new smell or will it eventually go away ?

any further recommendations?

Thanks!|||Use white Vinegar ....it works wonders|||bicarbonate of soda is good for getting rid of smells...just sprinkle over liberally, rub in a bit, and leave for a few hours...then hoover up.|||Wash the carpet with a color safe bleach to deodorize the smell without damaging the color.|||Next time you spill red wine on your carpet, pour salt over it. it will absorb the wine. As for the smell, indeed white vinegar works out but really it's a case for you to clean your carpet until smell goes. I do hope smell goes soon!|||Well next time you spill red wine all over the carpet poor a thick layer of salt over it. Then a day later or even a few hours, use handy andy mixed with water or whatever detergent you have a scrub with a old tooth brush! In regard to the smell there are nice carpet powders people use to throw over there carpets and then vacuum. How do I know all this? Just the other day the boyfriend and I invited people over for a braai and one of his friends girlfriends spilt wine all over, and that's exactly what we did and the stains no longer!|||Neutradol carpet powder may help. You sprinkle it on and then vacum off.|||White wine or Club soda is also good for blotting out red wine stains. You most probably need a shake'n'vac (vacuum de-odouriser).I think apart from open windows how about one of those plug- in air freshners?|||urinate on it!
